Guided tour
(Accompanied by a guide dressed in traditional costume)
Visit to the Yänonhchia’; longhouse. Presentation of the Wendat way of life. Visit to the smokehouse and meat dryer. Comments on methods of food preservation. Discovery of the sweat lodge. Presentation on the purification techniques used by our ancestors and introduction to the spiritual life of the Wendat people. Stop at the giant teepee. Story about the way of life of different nations. Presentation on the traditional means of transport of the Wendat, on the manufacture of canoes and snowshoes. Invitation to take a seat in one of the large canoes to listen to the guide’s explanations. Presentation on the current life of the Wendats in the town of Wendake.
Canoe trip
On your arrival at the Traditional Site, you will leave with a guide for a charming canoe trip. You will discover the fauna and flora of the river and the surrounding forest. You will discover the origin of the Kabir Kouba river.
Craft making
» Medicine Wheel for ages 12 and up
Made from deer leather, pheasant and goose feathers, the medicine wheel is used to ward off illness.
» Beaded necklace for ages 11 and under
Our young visitors enter the heart of Native American traditions, learning about the creation and making of a bead and caribou bone necklace.
Tomahawk throwing or archery
Visitors receive a brief presentation on the methods of tomahawk throwing or archery for ages 17 and under. Then they will be asked to put their techniques into practice. Each visitor is thus offered the opportunity to practice shooting on a target resembling an animal.
